An extremely easy make-ahead delicious desert that will wow your family and friends!
I learnt how to make this cake from a chef at a very popular bakery in Bangalore. He taught us how to make the Black Forest Pastry and Fresh Pineapple Pastry.
Anywho…I decided to tweak that recipe and make it even simpler by turning it into a trifle.
I used a ready made cake mix to speed up the process..you can use your own chocolate cake recipe instead if you have a favorite….
Oil, eggs and water as needed for the cake mix.
1 can tinned dark cherries in syrup (drain and chop cherries and keep aside)
1 1/2 cups heavy whipping cream
3-4 tbsp confectioners sugar
1/2 tsp Pure Vanilla extract
1 Chocolate bar (milk or dark) for garnish
Fresh cherries for garnish
Bake cake according to instructions. Cool and cut into pieces.
Whip cream to stiff peak stage with the vanilla and sugar and keep aside.
In a trifle bowl, add the first layer of cake.
Add half the cherries and soak the cake with half the syrup.
Add half of the whipped cream.
Add remaining half of the cake as the next layer.
Top with remaining cherries and syrup.
Finish with remaining whipped cream.
Garnish with grated chocolate. (I find it works best if grated directly over the bowl) Top off with fresh cherries.
Refrigerate to let flavors mingle.
